Why We Won’t Play THAT song

20110401 Why We Wont Play THAT1 177x300 Why We Won’t Play THAT songWe blogged before on any number of tunes that we’ll never play and I’d like to take some additional time today to help you understand why.

You see…it’s not so much that what’s occasionally requested flat out sucks (actually…yeah…sometimes it does…do you really want to hear “Livin On A Prayer”?  Is “Jesse’s Girl” really gonna make or break your night?) it’s just that if you legitimately want to hear this stuff, clearly Played Out isn’t the band for you.  And you know what?  That’s cool.  We’re cool with that.

There’s a ton of bands out there on any given night that will serve up the same, boring, tired, “played out” list of standards that somewhere along the line someone said “hey man…if you guys want to be a really great bar band, you gotta play THIS”.

And then they all did it…

Pick any bar or club with live music this Saturday night and guaranteed  you’ll hear pretty much a similar romp through some similar tunes played by some pretty similarly marginal musicians that for the most part are just phoning it in for their paycheck.  Playin what the people want, right?

Maybe that is what some people want…though not our people…

And in the same breath that you won’t hear this Boston Wedding Band drop Wanted Dead Or Alive, Jenny 867-5309, Glory Days, Sweet Home Alabama or Don’t Stop Believing, you won’t hear these other bands drop Golddigger, Party All The Time, Here Comes The Hotstepper, Come Baby Come, Hip Hop Hooray, Let Me Clear My Throat or the like.

And in closing…there’s plenty of room in the “cover band sandbox”.  We’re the corner without any cat poop in it.
